The unemployment rate in Bulgaria dropped to 9.59% in May, hitting its lowest level since September 1991.

The unemployment rate in Bulgaria dropped to 9.59% in May, hitting its lowest level since September 1991. The low level of unemployment can be put down to seasonal employment, typical for the summer season, according to the Employment Agency. The Unemployment rate has decreased by 0.64% compared to April 2006 and by 1.94 percentage points compared to May 2005. The number of unemployed registered at the labour bureaus in May 2006 have decreased by 6.2% compared to April and by 16.8% compared to May 2005. Unemployment rate has decreased considerably in Dobrich, Bourgas, Vidin, Montana and Sliven. The number of job vacancies in the private sector stood at 17,025 in May 2006, up 5.5% year on year.  Source: Pari
